The building dates back to the 1600s and the cellar hides the remnants of the original Stockholm city wall. The front of the house (Österlånggatan) once served as a part of the old docks where ships sailed in to unload their cargo and trade. Needless to say, the harbour quarters attracted all sorts of criminals and loiterers. Rumour has it that several treasures, that needed to be hidden from government official’s eyes, were buried in the cellars of our house. One rumour in particular mentions a large silver treasure that has still not been found. It is even included in the current owner’s sales agreement – if the treasure is found during his ownership it has to be divided with past owners…
The building is located in between Baggensgatan 17 and Österlånggatan 18 with one entrance on each side. Originally it was two buildings that were eventually united and made into one in the 1700s, keeping the old wooden framework. In the mid 18th century it was owned by Anders Sälgström who used the part towards Österlånggatan as a tobacco factory and storage with stables at the bottom and the part towards Baggensgatan as his private residence where he and his wife lived with their 11 children.

The big living room is divided by a partition wall into one seating area with flat screen TV and one sleeping area with twin beds. The living room ceiling is graced by a breath taking original 17th century ceiling painting that together with the beautiful hard wood floors, Gustavian beds and old fashioned fire place will give you a true sense of history. The large windows face the quiet little street Baggensgatan and the rustic décor adds to the very relaxed and welcoming atmosphere of this beauty.
LIGHT AND AIRY APARTMENT FOR 2-4 GUESTS
This very stylish apartment with its high ceilings and large windows gives a very light and spacious impression. The open plan kitchen/living room has lots of space for both sitting- and dining area and a nice sea-facing view over Old Town roof tops. The décor can be described as modern/classic topped off with some colourful modern artwork. The master bedroom offers a King bed and the second one twin beds. With the bedroom windows facing the quiet little street Baggensgatan 2 floors down, this apartment is very suitable for the traveller who values peace and quiet in their home away from home. Grace was completely renovated in 2014.
LARGE AND SOPHISTICATED APARTMENT FOR 4-6 GUESTS
This light and very airy apartment features a well-equipped kitchen, as well as a large living room with dining area for up to 8 people and a generous seating space. The two spacious bedrooms offer King bed and twin beds and two single fold-out sofa beds in the living room allow for two additional guests. Very stylish apartment with modern/antique décor filled with personal details and bold colours. Beautiful hard wood floors, stone tiles, exclusive materials and lots of atmosphere contribute to the very luxurious sense of this apartment. Conveniently accessible from ground floor Baggensgatan but with windows facing Österlånggatan three floors down.
GENEROUS AND LUXURIOUS APARTMENT FOR 4-10 GUESTS
This is our largest and most luxurious apartment that covers an entire floor features four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large open plan kitchen/living room with grand piano, dining room, a library, a conference room and two original 17th century ceiling paintings. Modern technology and comfort is here combined with antiques, impressive chandeliers, hardwood floors, marble and original wooden construction details. This apartment is not only suitable for the large family or group of friends, but also for the company mingle or meeting, the TV-production, photo shoot, or perhaps even your wedding.
We would love to be able to welcome any guest to our beautiful 17th century building. Unfortunately, though, the old construction allows very limited accessibility and our apartments are not suitable for wheelchairs due to thresholds, ledges and narrow door frames.
The fact that there is no elevator in the building might of course be a bit of an inconvenience for some of our guests. Please note that if you have made a booking for one of our apartments located on first or second floor, you will have to carry your luggage up one or two flights of stairs. We really hope, and believe, that you will find it worth the effort. If this is a problem for you, we strongly urge you to choose one of the apartments accessible from ground floor.
THRESHOLDS AND LEDGES
If you have mobility problems, please note that, as mentioned above, all apartments contain thresholds and ledges.
ACCESS BY CAR
Since our building is located in the heart of beautiful Old Town, access by car is limited as well. Traffic is prohibited all day, other than between 06.00 and 11.00 AM. This means that you might have to walk with your luggage on cobble stone streets the last 200 meters up to the residence. Again, we really do think that you will find it worth the effort, and the fact that the Old Town is not frequented by cars must for the most part be considered a good thing, and part of what makes our neighbourhood such a nice and quiet place to be.
There is no parking associated to Residence Perseus.
The nearest public parking lots are located at the outskirts of Old Town.
